Thoughts from Black Mountain, oil on board, 47 x 34 cm
This work began during a residency I undertook in April last year in Tasmania.
Most mornings I walked along the Tangara Track, where we were gifted beautiful sunlit days. I remember enjoying the light coming through the dense forest areas and the tall gum trees, lighting the leaves and pathways with its warm golden glow.
The painting was nearly complete and I thought I would finish it when back home. However those final touches turned into a morphing and refocus into my home surroundings.
Although my starting point was the inspiration of the external landscape the core of my work is about connecting to the internal response I have to it.
